Gentle radicalism – Jagoda Marinić on hope and change
Author, podcaster and journalist Jagoda Marinić penned a tribute to Croatia, the homeland of her parents, in her 2013 novel Restaurant Dalmatia. This impressive novel about growing up in Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall is now being reissued. In addition, she is publishing her shrewd debate contribution Sanfte Radikalität [“Gentle Radicalism”]. The last few years have been marked by the self-confidence of many minority groups that they can bring about social change primarily through loud voices and tough demands. Some saw this as a great opportunity to topple the balance of power, while others viewed it as a grave danger for the existing order.
Marinić, who has long been an advocate for a more diverse society, provides concrete suggestions for how this transformation can succeed and how we as people can become active subjects again without losing ourselves in the spiraling outrage on social media.
