“Started doing a bit of naked exercise again in the mornings”* – Amusing anecdotes from writers’ workshops – with Nina Kunzendorf, Matthias Matschke and Jakob Hein
*Thomas Mann a disciplined desk worker, Friedrich Nietzsche an ascetic thinker and Adalbert Stifter an indefatigable and prolific producer of texts? There is a widely held belief that writers are mythical creatures who tirelessly produce great and beautiful works. But this does not always match the reality: resistance and reluctance, frustration and distraction. Nietzsche can’t think without the right ham; Musil can’t without sex. Stifter has problems with his bowel movements and Thomas Mann is upset because no underwear fit him.
Psychotherapist and novelist Jakob Hein takes us into the laboratories of literature, while Nina Kunzendorf and Matthias Matschke show us that writers at work are often just as annoyed and unproductive as we are. This is a collective relaxation exercise: no geniuses or heroes here! Instead, we’ll regale you with highly entertaining failures and the strangest of customs.
