with Claudia Dathe Ganna Gryniva Kateryna Botanova Tanja Maljartschuk Verena Noll
This event takes place in two parts (each 45 minutes) with an intermission. First part: English | German, Second part: German
Russia’s war of aggression continues to dominate daily life for people in Ukraine – and in the Ukrainian arts scene. Many creatives are reacting to this threat through artistic expression. In conversation with translator Claudia Dathe, curator and cultural scholar Kateryna Botanova will discuss how the Russian attack is also aimed at the country’s culture – and how important it is, especially now, to protect this culture. The starting point here is Botanova’s essay “ABC der Zukunft” [“ABC of the Future”], published in the newly released anthology Die Zukunft, die wir uns wünschen [“The Future We Wish For Ourselves”].
After the intermission, author and Bachmann prize winner Tanja Maljartschuk (“Forgottenness”) will discuss her own literary roots and introduce us to the rich and vibrant tradition of Ukrainian literature with a selection of classic works. Musical accompaniment: Ganna Gryniva. Narrator of texts in German: Verena Noll.
